The royal family were reportedly not invited to the premiere of Diana.

The opening of the highly-anticipated film drama took place in London’s Leicester Square on Thursday night and was attended by the film’s star, Oscar-nominated actress Naomi Watts.

Diana follows the late Princess of Wales during the last two years of her life and explores her romance with surgeon Hasnat Khan.

Filmmakers allegedly did not invite important royal family members such as Princes William and Harry, Prince Charles, and the Queen, as well as those associated with Diana including Paul Burrell, who is featured in the film.

Film distributor Entertainment One told RadarOnline: ‘The Royal family has not been invited to the world premiere.’

With regards to Burrell and Mohammed Al Fayed – the father of Dodi – a second spokesman told the website they were not invited to attend ‘as [the] tickets were [only] for guests of the cast and crew.’

Watts revealed at the premiere that the royal family are yet to give their blessing to the film.

‘They wouldn’t make a comment,’ she said.
