Subway trains bypassed Times Square for about one hour Monday after a Chinese lantern on the tracks was described as looking like a hand grenade, authorities said.

The NYPD Bomb Squad was dispatched to check out a “suspicious package” on the northbound C-train tracks at approximately 1:30 p.m., police said.

Trains on the A,C and E lines were directed not to stop at the station until about 2:30 when police said it was safe for normal service to resume, authorities said.
