A commercial jetliner carrying 116 people disappeared over west Africa after losing contact with air traffic controllers, a Spanish charter company said Thursday. The Air Algerie aircraft vanished from radar about 50 minutes after it took off from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, while flying to the Algiers, according to the Algerian Press Service. In a statement, Madrid-based Swiftair confirmed it had chartered the jet. It said 100 passengers and six crew were aboard Flight AH5017.
